VirtualTIPS NRL Tipping - Terms & Conditions

  • For the purpose of this promotion the following definitions apply:
    "Promoter" means Vapormedia Pty Ltd, of 108/9-11 Claremont Street, South Yarra VIC 3141;
    "Promotion" means the VirtualTIPS NRL Tipping Competition, and is a sports tipping promotion conducted during the course of the 26 rounds of the 2010 National Rugby League season, not including any Finals Series;
    "Round" means a singular round in the 2010 National Rugby League season, not including any Finals Series;
    "Rounds" means all rounds in the 2010 National Rugby League season, not including any Finals Series;
    "Promotion Period" means the period commencing at 9am Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time ("AEDST") on 22.02.2010 and closing at 11:59pm Australian Eastern Standard Time ("AEST") on 06.09.2010;
    "Website" means league.virtualtips.com.au.
  • Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this Promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and the Website Terms of Use. In the event of any inconsistency, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail. The laws of Australia apply to this Promotion to the exclusion of any other law. Entrants submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.
  • Entry is open to Australian residents and non-Australian residents, except where prohibited. Notwithstanding the foregoing, only Australian residents aged 18 years and over are eligible to win any prizes, excluding the directors, managers and employees (and their immediate family) of the Promoter and agencies associated with this Promotion. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister or 1st cousin.
  • The Promotion is made up of 3 components as follows:
    (a) Tipping Component;
    (b) Eliminator Component;
    (c) One Team Tip Component; and
    For specific details on how each component will be conducted and the relevant additional terms and conditions that apply, refer to the Schedule.
  • To enter any component of the Promotion, the entrant must firstly register by completing the online registration process at the Website during the Promotion Period. Entrants will be required to (a) choose a nickname/alias to identify their entry; and (b) submit the name of their favourite NRL team.
  • Only one registration per an entrant (and per an email address) will be accepted. If invited to enter a particular league, entrants may enter their details to join that league during the registration process. Alternatively they can create up to three private or public leagues and invite others to join. If they do not select a league, entrants will automatically be entered into a public league. Subject to an entrant's eligibility to win a prize, an entrant's chances of winning a prize will not be affected by whether they join a public league or private league. Rankings as displayed on the Website include the rankings of all entrants, and not only the rankings of entrants that are eligible to win a prize, and therefore should not be relied upon as indication of who will a prize.
  • During registration entrants may refer the promotion to their friends via email using the Refer-a-Friend facility on the Website. If an entrant refers a friend, they warrant that they have obtained their friend's consent to do so prior to sending the email. The entrant indemnifies the Promoter against any claims by any third party for the entrant's failure to do so.
  • The Promoter's decisions in relation to all aspects of this Promotion is final and no correspondence will entered into, including decisions in relation to the number of points achieved or rankings are final and nor correspondence will be entered into.
  • The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including an entrant's identity, age and place of residence) and to disqualify any entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who in the opinion of the Promoter tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
  • Incomplete, indecipherable, incorrect or illegible entries will be deemed invalid. Entries containing inappropriate, offensive, derogatory or defamatory content, as determined by the Promoter will deemed invalid and may be removed from display.
  • If there is a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the entrant.
  • If the prize is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize with a prize to the equal value and/or specification.
  • Total prize pool value is up to $237
  • Prizes, including any unused portion, are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash. Unless specified otherwise, prizes must be taken in accordance with any nominated date. Failure to take prize by a nominated date will result in the forfeiture of that prize and cash will not be awarded in lieu of that prize.
  • The draw to award any unclaimed prizes will take place at Vapormedia Pty Ltd at 108/9-11 Claremont Street, South Yarra VIC 3141 at 12pm AEST on 07.12.2010. In the event that a prize is no longer available the Promoter will award a prize of equivalent value and specification as determined by Promoter in its absolute discretion.
  • Entrants consent to the Promoter using the entrant's name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are a winner (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this competition (including any outcome), and promoting any services supplied by the Promoter.
  • If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) subject to any written direction from a Lottery Authority, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.
  • Any cost associated with accessing the promotional website is the entrant's responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used.
  • Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Promotion, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter's control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant; or (f) the prize.
  • The Promoter collects personal information in order to conduct the Promotion and may, for this purpose and such other purposes as detailed in Promoter's privacy statement at afl.virtualtips.com.au, disclose such information to third parties, including, but not limited to, prize suppliers and Vapormedia Pty Ltd. Entry is conditional on providing this information. The Promoter may, for an indefinite period unless otherwise advised, use the information for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes including sending electronic messages or telephoning the entrant. Entrants should direct any request to access, update or correct information to the Promoter by emailing support@vitualtips.com.au. All entries become the property of the Promoter.

Tipping Component:

How to Enter
  • After registration, entrants may enter in all remaining Rounds of the Tipping Component which have not been completed or locked out during the Promotion Period.
  • If the entrant wishes to provide their tips for a particular Round, they must do so before the lockout time for that Round, or the particular match (as notified on the Website), by visiting the Website and submitting their tip entry including their Margin Score, in accordance with the instructions. For clarity, an entrant may choose and edit their entered tips for a Round at any time before the lockout time for that Round, or the particular match, as notified on the Website.
  • How Points are determined

    Point scoring

  • In the case where the entrant has registered after a Round or several Rounds have closed, the entrant will receive the average tips score (i.e. total number of points divided by entrants) for any previously completed Round prior to their registration, rounded down to the nearest whole number, with up to a maximum of 4 points being awarded for all missed Rounds.
  • The Margin Score is used as a tie-breaker should more than one entry be ranked equally based on points. The Margin Score is calculated based on the difference between the submitted Margin Prediction and the actual result. For example, if a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the actual Result is a WIN by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded will be 5 points. If a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the team LOSES by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded is 15 points. The Cumulative Margin Score is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest.
  • Tipping Prize
  • The Prize Winner Selection Process will be conducted by a representative of Vapormedia Pty Ltd at 108/9-11 Claremont Street, South Yarra VIC 3141 ("Prize Winner Selection Location").
  • There will be one Season Tipping Prize of an Apple 2gb iPod Shuffle, awarded at the completion of the 26 round season.
  • The Major Tipping Prize will be determined at the Winner Selection Location at 12pm on 07.09.2010. There will be a total of one Major Tipping Prize. The total Major Tipping Prize pool is valued at $79. In the event of a tie between two or more eligible entrants with the equal highest score, the Major Tipping Prize winner will be the entrant who achieved the lowest Cumulative Margin Score. If this fails to break the tie, the Major Tipping Prize winner will be the entrant who registered first.
  • Major Tipping Prize winners will be notified by email and phone.
Eliminator Component: How to enter
  • After registration, entrants may enter in all remaining Rounds of the Eliminator Component which have not been completed or locked out. The Eliminator Component will only be conducted during the 2010 NRL season excluding any round in the Finals.
  • If the entrant wishes to provide their tips for a particular Round, they must do so before the lockout time for that Round, or the particular match (as notified on the Website), by visiting the Website and submitting their tip of one team that they tip to win and the Margin Prediction, in accordance with the instructions. Each entrant is only permitted to select the same team once during the Promotion Period.
  • How scores are determined

    Point scoring
    Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
    Win streak The win streak score is incremented by 1 for every round where a winner is selected.
    Non-submission If an entry is not submitted for any given round, that round is void and the win streak is maintained.
    Incorrect tip An incorrect tip breaks the win streak and the entry is reset to 0. The best win streak is stored and the entry is ranked on this basis, until and when that win streak is improved upon. Margin prediction must be submitted for a valid entry in upcoming round.


  • The objective of the Eliminator Component is to obtain the highest 'Win Streak Score' by correctly determining a winning team in each Round.
  • The entrant will start with a Win Streak Score of 0. The entrant's Win Streak Score will be increased by 1 point for every Round where a winner is selected. If an entry is not submitted for any given Round, that Round is void and the Win Streak Score is maintained.
  • An incorrect tip breaks the Win Streak, and the participant's Win Streak Score is reset to 0 for the following Round.
  • The best Win Streak Score of the entrant is stored as the "Best Win Streak" and the entrant is ranked on this basis, until and if that Win Streak Score is improved upon by the entrant.
  • If the entrant fails to submit their Margin Prediction for any given Round, the average Margin Score for that particular Round from ALL entries will be awarded.
  • In the case where the entrant has registered late, the entrant will receive the average Margin Score from all previously missed Rounds, based on ALL entries irrespective of the team selected.

One Team Tip Component

How to enter

  • After registration, entrants may enter in all remaining Rounds of the One Team Tip Component which have not been completed or locked out. The One Team Tip Component will only be conducted during the 2010 National NRL season excluding any round in the Finals.
  • At the time of registration, the entrant must select their favourite team, which will be used for the duration of the One Team Tip Component. The object for the entrant is to predict the score of their favourite team in each Round (i.e. the Margin Prediction) and achieve the lowest Cumulative Margin Score overall.
  • The Cumulative Margin Score is the total of all Margin Scores awarded for all completed Rounds to date. The Margin Score is calculated based on the difference between the submitted Margin Prediction and the actual result. For example, if a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the actual Result is a WIN by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded will be 5 points. If a team is tipped to WIN by 10 points and the team LOSES by 5 points, the Margin Score awarded is 15 points. The lowest Margin Score and Cumulative Margin Score is ranked highest.
